GCN is leading a mission trip to Honduras June 24 - July 2, 2010. In July 2008, GCN had 33 members plus 5 additional brothers and sisters in Christ from other churches participate in a mission trip to Honduras. We thank everyone who participated or supported this mission! These photos show some of the highlights from our 2008 mission. View our prayer vigil for the mission team. Mission Trip Updates

July 2, 2010:
The Honduras team is packing up and cleaning up and making their way to the airport in San Pedro Sula this morning. Pray for safe travels back home late tonight after a great week of ministry there!

Update: The team arrived at the airport safely late on Friday looking tired and happy.

July 1, 2010:
We got a message from Dan VanGilder. He said everything is going well. They played the Jesus film last night and about 300 attended. Afterwards Sammy spoke and gave an invitation. About 50 went forward to recieve Christ.
June 30, 2010:

Got a call from Honduras this morning.  They apologized for not calling more but are very busy on a number of ministry fronts down there in Honduras (I told them we'd cut 'em some slack:).  They asked us to pray especially for the big evangelistic event they've got going tonight in the town square (Santa Barbara?) when they'll show the Jesus film.  There are at least 4 area pastors who are working with them on this, one of which volunteered their bus to go into the neighborhood, where our team is working, to bring folks from there.  That event happens @ 7pm their time (9pm our time).

Everything continues to go very well.  Only a couple of flat tires, but no other problems with the vehicles they've rented.  Everyone's health is good.  Keith has had a couple of brief periods when he's been in pain, but other than that has been doing well.  Dave and Angie's injured ankles have been a bit tender, but they've kept trucking.  Kim Yost has provided some valuable physical therapy and advice to the team.

The Children's ministry, the medical work, the construction is all going well.  Some will have the opportunity to go into a men's prison today to distribute shoes and Bibles.  A group of 25 got to go yesterday and see Pastor Jacobo, the young pastor who's house the teens @ GCN provided the money to complete.  Children's ministry, construction and some medical ministry all happened in that area.

In addition to all the good work being done, the team is enjoying some amazing times of worship and devotion together.  It sounds like it's been a great time spiritually for the entire team and some have rededicated their lives to Christ and to a life lived for Him.  It couldn't be going any better and they continue to appreciate your prayer support.  Keep it up!  Three more days!  Thanks for remembering your team in Honduras!

June 29, 2010:
Jim McGlaughlin called in the report from Honduras this morning.  He said everyone is doing great, the worship is phenomenal, the young folks are doing really well and are excited about what's happening.  They're accomplishing a lot in what he described as "deplorable conditions" in the orphanages where they're working.   A lady named Marissa from Colorado met them in Honduras and is on the team.  She was an agnostic until Sunday when during a church service she gave her heart to Christ (Jim is telling this part of the story in tears).  No sickness, no accidents or injuries, Keith Dorsey continues to do well, Dave and Angie are getting around fine and they don't seem to be affected by tropical storm Alex.  Doesn't sound like things could be much better!  They were disbursing in several groups going a few different directions today (Tuesday).  Thank you for your continued prayers.
June 27, 2010:
Lisa Sharp called this morning and the team is doing great! They went to the orphanage on the first day and did construction on the 2nd day. The teens and young adults are all really bonding. Keith is doing OK and staying comfortable. Today was a long travel day for them so we were praying for their safety.
June 26, 2010:
We did not hear from the team on Friday, but Sammy Sierra called on behalf of the team this morning (Saturday) and said all was well! He described their time as "amazing" (you can hear Sammy now, right :). Friday was a work day divided between three locations, Mujeres (home for young women), El Carmen (orphanage) and ABC which is a currently unused and large orphanage, more of a compound with dorms and other buildings that the government is looking for someone to use. Some construction happened there and ministry to the girls and kids at the other two locations.

Sammy said that they've had some great devotional and worship times together and that he's so impressed with the quality of the team, their spirit, the way they get along and their heart for the ministry they're there to do. Aside from slight case of dehydration on Friday, the team is healthy and things couldn't be going any better. They continue to covet your prayers. They will be with several Nazarene churches tomorrow in a camp meeting kind of setting. Sammy is either preaching there or in another church along the way. Sunday evening they'll be heading out of the San Pedro Sula area to Santa Barbara I believe.

Thanks for your prayers! We'll continue to pass along updates as often as we get them.
June 25, 2010:
Some of you may have heard that Keith Dorsey, who is leading the construction portion of the team's efforts, was battling a kidney stone just a few days before he was supposed to leave with the team. He made a couple of ER runs and was struggling with what to do, especially since he had not passed that stone as of the night before departure. Well, he decided to go and here's a note he left behind:
I really want to take time to thank everyone that took time to pray for me. I know it is doing the job. I am happy to say that, with the blessing of the team and most important the medical staff, I AM GOING ON THE MISSION TRIP, and leaving pain free. Please keep praying for our team and me being pain free.

The verse PB quoted me before leaving really is what this trip is all about (Proverbs 3:5-6). "We need to trust in the Lord!" I know I told you about the shelves we are building for the A B C center and how I was looking for a Bible verse to but on them for the abused women with kids. Well, Lord willing, that is the verse that is going on them--Proverbs 3: 5

All that the team has over come and still be going as a complete team is answer to prayer and all about that verse. I believe every one has put total trust in the Lord on this one. We have also put total trust in all of your prayers, so please don't stop now, we need you...

...Please let everyone know that whether we are on the ground in Honduras or in Gaithersburg this Mission is all of ours. And I personally thank each of you for the privilege to represent you in Honduras.

I do have one more thing to ask of all of you. Please pray and check in on the family members that are here (in Gaithersburg). It is harder on ones left behind than it is on the ones that get to go.

Thank you all again for your prayers.

Your Brother in Christ
Keith Dorsey
May God Bless all of us.
June 24, 2010:
Dave Dunlevy called at 8 p.m. our time and said they had arrived safely, luggage intact and in hand, vehicles rented, and they were making their way to the hotel where they'll be staying through Sunday. Everything is smooth sailing so far and they attribute that to the great prayer support back home!

The time at Reagan National at dark-thirty this morning went smoothly as well. They had to stuff one suitcase worth of stuff into two others and leave one empty one behind--apparently they had reached their limit. Everyone looked well rested and ready to go although no one was well rested :) Sleep time the night before departure ranged from 4 hours to zero.

One prayer request--Lisa Sharp's father died today in Texas. Lisa knew this was a possibility and will receive that news this evening when the team checks in again.

Vision Statement

Our desire is to go to Honduras and serve humbly with a passionate love that can only come from Christ. We understand that we will be uncomfortable and stretched beyond what we think we can handle, but may we come to know and recognize that with God, all things are possible. We want our team to grasp the reality that when we serve ‘the least of these’ we not only look directly into the face of God himself, but we are participating in the fellowship of sharing in Christ’s sufferings. We pray that our faith in Jesus will grow like never before and we’ll be able to claim that faith without action is dead.

Mission Statement

Click for La Mesa, Honduras Forecast

The mission is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and to love the people we will serve as ourselves. Our desire is to imitate Jesus’ behavior knowing that he did not come to be served, but to serve and to save the lost. We want to acknowledge that we have been freely given so much and we would like to freely give to others. Our goal is to care for orphans and widows, feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty, give a stranger a ride, clothe people who need clothing, and care for the sick.

Planned Activities

As part of the overall mission, there will be several teams formed to pray over particular ministry areas, including children’s ministry, medical, family, and construction teams. There will be planning done through these groups. It will be extremely important for team members to desire to really work together to accomplish the goals set before them.

Packing List One of the most important qualities a team member must possess is flexibility. Not everything will go according to plan or the way you thought it would. But, we have to be flexible and open to where the Holy Spirit might be leading us.

For those who are signed up to travel on the mission, you may download a copy of the packing list.
