Weekly Update
Hi GCN Family,
It is for FREEDOM that Christ has set us free. (Galatians 5:1)
Today is Freedom Day. It’s the day that celebrates the end of the sinful practice of legalized slavery in the United States. The tension, of course, is that June 19, 1865 was a full two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Lincoln. For nearly 18 months, in some parts of the U.S., enslaved people had been declared free but were still being held in slavery. So, for Christians in America, this day is full of both celebration and lament. We celebrate places where deep wrongs are made right, in Jesus name. We celebrate prisoners set free and lost sons and daughters coming home. We celebrate freedom in Christ. But we also mourn the fallout and long-lasting effects of sin. May we be a people who are shaped into the Way of Jesus in our own neighborhood; who continue to not run from the deep wounds, but to instead offer the healing balm of Jesus Christ wherever there are deep wounds. In Jesus Name. Amen!
Now, we do have a lot to celebrate this week, though: It’s Mega Sports Camp week! I am praising God for a wonderful team of volunteers, a whole bunch of kids who are a part of this camp, the leadership of Melinda Bell (MSC director), and especially for the several children who have given their lives to Christ so far this week! Would you continue to join me in prayer over Mega Sports Camp and what God is doing here?
Also, plan to be a part of Mega Sports Camp Comeback Sunday this Sunday! We’re continuing in our Storyteller series, and I can’t wait. Could you do me a favor? Invite friends and neighbors to join you on Sunday. I believe there will be a pay-off. So many people looking for a people to belong to. By God’s grace, may we be those people. Then, plan to stick around after the worship service for our big Comeback Lunch! We’re talking burgers and hot dogs and other delicious food. Remember, this is just one more opportunity to love people in our neighborhood and – with our lives – invite them to follow Jesus.
Check out the ANNOUNCEMENTS PAGE on our website, or on the GCN App, to join in on Summer Fun Groups, Camps, and other great ways to connect this summer. God is so good.
Much love,
Pastor Brian
