Weekly Update

Thy WORD is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119:105)

This summer we’re looking at the place of scripture in the life of the believer. Scripture is not just an ancient text written by people who are now dead. By the power of the Holy Spirit, the Word of God is alive and active. It is relevant for us today!

I’m grateful that scripture has played a central role throughout my whole life. My parents are to thank for that. Here’s a non-comprehensive list of scriptures that have been important to me, along with the ages and staged of my life when they were impactful:

  • Daniel 3 – Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego rescued by God in the fiery furnace. (Age 3-6. My first memory of scripture is a picture of God who, no matter what, is with us, even in the worst of times!)
  • 1 Samuel 17 – David and Goliath. (Age 3-6)
  • Stories from the gospels, especially parables like The Good Samaritan (Luke 10) and The Prodigal Son (Luke 15). (Age 6-12)
  • Isaiah 55:9 (Age 10-15)
  • Proverbs 3:5-6 (Age 15-22)
  • Philippians 4:6 (Age 22-30 and beyond)
  • Isaiah 26:3 (Age 38 – present, and beyond)

I would love to hear it: How has God’s Word been alive and active in your life over the years? What scripture passage or story is most impactful right now, in this season of life? Email me and let me know!

Two More Things:

  1. Let’s be praying for our many students and our adults who are at Mid-Atlantic District Teen Camp this week. Holy Spirit, move in their lives. Draw them to you. Change hearts and minds. In Jesus Name. Amen.
  2. Thanks for being a part of the “Bee A Blessing” Backpack drive! We are blessing our neighborhood. Those backpacks and schools supplies are due back this Sunday (August 9th).
  3. Love Offering for our Summer Ministry Intern, Sydney Cochran. This coming Sunday will be Sydney’s last Sunday before she heads back to college, where she’ll be a junior at Regent University. If you’d like to give towards her love offering, you can go to the GCN Giving Page, and select “Pastors-Staff-Intern Blessing” from the drop-down menu. Thanks for supporting Sydney!

Much Love,

Pastor Brian
