Weekly Update
1 John 3:18 says: “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
Sounds good! But what does this look like?
Well, lots of different things, but it definitely looks like a church coming alongside its neighborhood and giving school supplies and backpacks to families just before the start of a school year.
We’re in this series called, Word. We’re asking, what is the role of scripture for someone who is following Jesus?
On the one hand, the bible is a collection of 66 different books written by 40 different authors over 1500 years. It’s the longest recorded family history in all of humanity.
On the other hand, it’s the inspired Word of God. It’s not merely a collection of stories and prayers and prophecy; it’s the Holy Spirit-filled Word of God to His people!
The bible was never meant to only be read.
Don’t just read the bible. Pray the bible. Live out the words of the bible.
I just want to say, Thanks, church, for living out the words of the bible (1 John 3:18) through things like: a backpack drive, food distribution, providing food for a women’s shelter, caring for staff and residents at a nursing home, serving food at The Lord’s Table, and all the ways you share the gospel and serve others in your own life on a weekly basis.
