Weekly Update
Hi GCN Family,
Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you REST. – Jesus (Matthew 11:28)
I wonder how many of our problems stem from our lack of rest. I’m not just referring to a lack of a good night’s sleep (although most of us could use more of that, I’m sure). I wonder if many of us confuse rest for distraction. On Sunday we talked about how rest is embedded into God’s rhythm of creation. He created rest on the seventh day. Then, he invited us to participate in rest, too!
The church must be on mission, doing the good work in our world to which God has called us. But we must work from our rest. Not the other way around. This week’s challenge: if you don’t already do so, consider practicing Sabbath this week. If 24 hours feels impossible, try 12. If 12 is not doable, try 6. Let’s create the space in our lives to give our attention to God (because what we give our attention to is the type of people we become), so that now we can actually love people with the love of Jesus that’s inside of us. You are loved. Rest in Him.
A few other things…
Much love,
Pastor Brian
